| Hello,
I am in Cancun right now and getting ready to fly out to Cuba on Thursday.
It has been a tiring week. I have been feeling a little drained lately. But tonight was refreshing. We went out to minister and our group went and visited an 11 year old girl that Abigail, a girl in our group, had befriended and really connected with. We spent the whole time with this girl and talked to her about the Bible and why Jesus had to die. To make a long story short she wanted to be able to talk to Jesus like we were talking to her and have that friendship with Him. Half of the time while Abigail and Ann-Micheal were talking to her two of us were praying for this girl. It was such a refreshing time and I really felt the Holy Spirit there with us.
Another story that about the ministry that has been going on is a sad one. Our leader, Libby, was talking to one of the little girls and this little girl said that her parents beat her and her little brother. Libby went to walk her home a little later and as she was leaving she heard the little girl being beat. The next time we had ministry Libby´s group went to pray over that family and house. When they got there the beating was going on again. They really felt that God wasn´t leading them to go into the house right then. I am going to back up a little bit. Before we go out in our groups we pray and ask God for direction. Well while our group was praying I saw a picture of us going up to a house and in that house was a child being beaten. We went up to that house and shared the Gospel with them. Well that night they group heard the beating going on. Just tonight we went back to that neighborhood and Libby´s group went to that house again and talked with them a lot about the identity of Christ. The little girl was saying how much she loved one of our girls and when they were leaving she would not let go of Emily. When they were leaving two of the the girls heard the little girl being beat again. It has been rough for our team. Just knowing that we can´t do anything about it. My heart has been hurting for these kids. I understand a little more of God´s heart. Pray for us but more for this little girl.
| Hello,
It is good to be able to finally get to a computer again. We were in a village that was very small and had about 500 people at the most. It was very small. We really felt that the enemy had a strong hold on that place. We did a lot of prayer walking there. I got sick there and so did quite a few others. The witch doctor was right across the street from us guys stayed but Tito, one of the Mexican leaders/translators here said that he felt that the witch doctor had lost his spirits. We also went to this cave that is here that has water in it which is called a cenote and is very popular here and is all over the Ucatan. This one is were the witch doctor did all his things at. We had a great prayer and worship time there.
At the village before that I was able to lead two guys to the Lord after a long conversation. I think that this was the first time that I have lead anyone to the Lord. Both their names are Joaquim. 15 and 19 years old.
I will try to write soon again. Thanks for leaving comments.
| Hey everybody,
I am doing well here in Mexico, I am at an internet Cafe so this will be short. We are in a village outside Cancun until Friday and then we go to another village. We will be going to several more villages before we go to Cancun to minister in three weeks.
Our days look like this-
In the mornings we do a work project like clear out a lot for the church an today we cleared a road so that they could pave it or something. Then at 12:30 or so we go to lunch. It has been good because the pastor here has let us use his home to have meals in every day and a different small group feeds us because he is teaching them to give and serve even though they are in a third world country. The food has been amazing. We will then take a break in the afternoon until we go out to evangelize. Evangelism has been great. The first day we got to talk to two ladies and they accepted Christ. The next day another man accepted Christ as well in our team alone. The other teams have some great stories as well. We sleep in hammocks at night here because of the heat but in the night at about 2 it gets cold but if I get in a sleeping bag I sweat or even just with a sheet. The two other guys have gotten sick already and several of the girls and I sometimes have felt a little bad but I haven´t had to miss anything or thrown up. So I am still going strong in this heat. The heat here is around the 80's - 90's but the humidity is so that if you take a shower you feel sticky in just a few hours. I have really been enjoying here. I have quite a few blisters from macheting and clearing stuff.
Well I need to get going.
Let me know how you are all doing. Love you all.
| Here are some photos that were taken here in Tennessee.
Here is some of us going to see a movie on a Friday night. Julez is on the left and then Emily, Tim and myself.
Here we have all the guys in my school. Starting from the left. Marc, me, Tim, Bigs (this is his nickname because it is hard to pronounce his real name and it also to protect his identity), and Brooke. These bottom two are for a scavenger hunt we did.

I will put some more up later.

| I am here in Tennessee now and I have been here for over a
week now. This is not going to be very long because I get up really early
now like 6:00am in the morning. Anyway, I love it here! The classes
are great. I will try to put some stuff up here sometime soon. Like
something I have been learning. Because you know that we only retain
about 5% of what we hear. If we write it down then that % goes up.
"How much?" you ask. Well I don't know but it is not a whole lot.
But if we repeat it then that is even better. So the more I talk about
what I learn then the more I will be able to retain. Wow I could have
talked about maybe something a little more interesting then that. Oh
well. This is mainly just to let people know that I am here and loving it.
It is great getting to know all the new people too. There are some real
characters here. It is going to be great getting to spend 5 months with
them and getting on each other’s nerves. Great times. Well I am
going to go to bed now.
I love you all.
Later,
Matt | | |
